Mariners claim outfielder Grant McCray in first act of Giants' roster churn — San Francisco Sports news

SAN FRANCISCO The start of the Giants offseason figures to be remarkably busy from a paperwork standpoint and the moves started right away.  On the first day of the offseason, the Giants lost outfielder Grant McCray and right-hander Braxton Roxby on waiver claims by the Seattle Mariners and Washington Nationals, respectively. They also announced that relievers Matt Gage and Jason Foley have been outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento s roster, along with infielder Osleivis Basabe. McCray is the most well-known of the group with Giants fans, and now gets a fresh start after several short stints in the big leagues. A third-round pick in 2019, he has as good a tool set as any young Giants position player, but that rarely led to consistent production. McCray hit .170 over 102 games spread out over three seasons, with seven homers and a 38.5-percent strikeout rate. He did steal 13 bases in 13 attempts and offers outstanding defense at all three outfield spots, so it s not a surprise
